Our School Day

St. Chad's logoSt. Chad’s runs a Breakfast Club each day from 8:00am onwards at a cost of £1.50 per day (no charge for children entitled to free school meals). Children need to arrive before 8.30 to register for Breakfast Club. This is run by Mrs Knighton.

Early on Monday and Thursday mornings, staff have a briefing between 8.30 and 8.45. This always begins with a prayer.

Children arrive between 8.45 and 9.00am. A breakfast snack of toast and a drink is often available at 8.45 on the yard for 20p. School starts at 9am.

As a Catholic school, we echo the daily pattern of Church prayer so that it becomes a natural part of our children’s lives. Each morning begins with a prayer.

We place high value on everyone coming together as a community every day, either as a class or school, to represent the Church in worship.

Our school collective worship mirrors the weekly pattern of gospels used in Sunday mass. On Monday morning the whole school comes together where the gospel is introduced to the children and a discussion takes place. On Tuesday or Wednesday this is followed up in class collective worship and then revisited again in whole school collective worship on Thursday led by Mrs Strachan.

On other days, collective worship is planned and led by either the children or the class teacher.

  • Morning break for all pupils is 10.45 a.m. until 11.00 a.m.
  • Lunch break starts at 11.45 a.m. in classes 1 and 2 and 12.15 p.m. in classes 3 and 4. Lunch begins and ends with a prayer.
  • Afternoon lessons begin at 12.45 p.m. for Class 1 and 2 and 1.00 p.m. for Class 3 and 4.
  • At the end of the day there is a final prayer. All pupils finish at 3.10 p.m. and leave together.

We have a full programme of after school clubs. After school clubs usually finish by 4.15. Information about these can be found on our website.
