On Friday 31st January, some of St Chad’s students took part in the annual School Swimming Gala. The staff that came along to support us were Mrs Hannon and Mrs Lyall. They were very proud of us for taking part and trying our best.
Overall we came 3rd- the highest we have ever come. Sophie was brave enough to get into the pool and swim her strongest backstroke; she came a fab 2nd in the individual. Then, not long afterwards, Zac swam his amazing 25m backstroke. He came 3rd. We were all really glad that Sam came 1st on his individual backstroke, especially because it was his first swimming gala with St Chad’s. We reached the breaststroke and Ellie was the first to swim 25m. She was really confident and came 2nd. Harrison was next to swim his fastest stroke and he came a miraculous 2nd. Out of Year 3/4 Robyn came a whopping 1st. Then Elliot got into the water and swam his fantastic breaststroke, and came 1st. Yasmin started our freestyle and came a super 3rd. Evan was next and he came a superb 4th. Carla was a super swimmer and made her way through the water bravely and ended up coming 4th. It was Isaac`s first ever swimming gala and the staff were really glad that he took part and tried his best. He finished an extraordinary 3rd.
Soon after it came to the relay races and Yasmin, Sophie, Phoebe and Ellie were first in the Freestyle relay. Yasmin was confident to go first and Ellie was confident to finish our magnificent relay race. We came 3rd. Harrison was confident to open the boys relay along with Cameron, Charlie and Evan. They came 6th. Carla, Robyn, Elliot and Sam swam brilliantly and came 1st. in the Year 3/4 Mixed Relay.
Ellie started the mixed relay with the backstroke and Phoebe followed with the breaststroke then Yasmin and Sophie finished with the freestyle. And we came a fabulous 1st. Our last relay race was the boys mixed stroke team. Zac opened with the backstroke followed by Harrison with the breaststroke. The race was finished by Cameron B and Evan. The boys finished a fantastic 6th.
We all did really well and when we got back to school and told everyone how the morning had gone, everyone was really pleased and proud of us.
In the afternoon, a further eleven schools took part in a second gala. The results from both galas were combined and when the final results were announced we had come 3rd out of 23 schools!! WOW!
